The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka is offering several scholarships to graduating high school students in West Hawaii.

College fair planned
The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling will hold a spring Kona College Fair from 12:30 to 2 p.m Wednesday at Kealakehe High School.
The fair will feature colleges from Hawaii, the mainland and overseas. The college fair is free of charge and is designed for all West Hawaii students in grades 9-11 or anyone interested in pursuing higher education opportunities.

Hospital auxiliary offers nursing scholarships
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary is accepting applications from students wishing to receive a scholarship to pursue a career in nursing. Applications are available at KCHAuxiliary.org or at the hospital’s education department. Completed applications must be postmarked by June 1, and interviews will be held June 8.
To qualify, applicants must already be accepted into an accredited school of nursing and not already be a registered nurse. Info: Stephanie Irwin, 322-4560.
Also, the auxiliary will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the hospital conference room. Visitors are welcome. A special event planned for members on May 7 will be discussed.
The public is also welcomed to a bake sale held from 7 to 9 a.m. every Friday in the hospital cafeteria.

Bread week at Kona Historical Society
April 4-8 is Bread Week at Kona Historical Society. Portuguese sweet bread will be baked and sold Thursday and Friday, while cinnamon rolls will be available today.
The program is free and the bread is $8 per loaf and sold first come, first served.
Bread sales begin at around 12:30 p.m. until sold out.

Suicide prevention task force meets
The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Community Health Center, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway on the corner of Hualalai Road.
Everyone is welcome. The group’s mission is suicide prevention and support to families and friends who are left behind in the wake of suicide.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training classes are scheduled for May and June.

USO meeting is Thursday
The USO will hold an informational meeting and solicitation of volunteer from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the VFW Post behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street.
Gaylene Horton, 938-4240, and others are nearing success after a 10-year effort to place a USO facility on Hawaii Island, which will be at the military training grounds. A second location is being sought at Kona International Airport.
